Another post about my time on Twitter. I will post the code in a separate post so that the R-bloggers don’t syndicate this one, which is about music.
In my time on Twitter I occasionally posted about what I was listening to. I did this with a #NowPlaying hashtag. I wanted to preserve these tweets – and they can all be found below.
My main motivation with tweeting #NowPlaying was to bring music I enjoyed to other people’s attention. I love finding music I haven’t heard before and wanted to contribute. Sometimes my #NowPlaying tweets were a tribute to someone who had died (or some other occasion). OK I’ll admit it, some of them were a bit “look at me and my eclectic music taste”.
They were always something that I owned (in electronic form) as I don’t stream music as a rule. I tried to provide a bandcamp link in more recent times to encourage people to support the artist.
#NowPlaying over the years
I wrangled a way to look at my #NowPlaying frequency as a calendar heatmap. I tended to send one #NowPlaying tweet per day, at most two. The exception was the EU Referendum day when I decided to post music from non-UK artists, one from a different European country, in support of the Remain vote. That day appears yellow in mid-2016. I’ll post the code for this separately.
I was pretty consistent at posting #NowPlaying tweets. Although they tailed off in 2019 and came back strong in 2020. I don’t remember a reason for that.
Having done some shenanigans in R with my Twitter data over the last week or so, I realised I could preserve these tweets and post them here on quantixed for posterity. It was simply a case of
ignore.case to get them all and then some standard wrangling to output them as plain text, into markdown and then paste here.
